ClearSkin Acne Treatment

Effective treatment for Acne. You don’t have to live with chronic, severe or stubborn acne!

Here at Andresa we understand all too well the emotional and physical impact acne can have on the lives of those who suffer from it.
Acne is not just one of those ‘phases’ in life. It is, at any age, a serious inflammatory skin condition that needs to be properly managed and treated. While it is common for around nine in ten teenagers and young adults to be affected by this serious skin condition, acne is becoming increasingly common for many adults in their 30’s, 40’s and 50’s too.

Long-term persistent inflammatory acne can be due to many factors, with fluctuating or increased levels of hormones and medications being the most common root causes. In addition, gut health and diet must also be considered. In the case of some adults, an inflammatory skin condition known as rosacea can often be mistaken as adult acne.

Acne occurs when an excess amount of oil, dead skin cells, debris (moisturiser & make-up) and acne-causing bacteria interrupt the skin’s natural cleansing and regeneration process. This imbalance can very quickly create symptoms such as ‘clogged up’ pores – known as black / white heads – or comedones – rough, dry and tight inflamed skin – or small and large red lumps – known as papules – or infection which presents as yellow oozing pustules or deep cysts.

At Andresa, we use a combination of treatment modalities to address the causes of acne. Amongst those treatment modalities is the ClearSkin laser treatment. ClearSkin is the first technology to combine a non-ablative laser with simultaneous contact cooling and vacuum technology to treat acne and acne vulgaris safely and effectively.

Once acne subsides, ClearSkin scar revision may be also advised to address post acne scarring.

How ClearSkin Acne works:

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) about the ClearSkin Acne Treatment

What is ClearSkin Acne?

ClearSkin Acne is a laser treatment that combines heat and vacuum technology to treat all forms of acne vulgaris safely and effectively. It is suitable for all skin types, has no side effects and achieves a smoother, rejuvenated complexion with lasting results.

How does ClearSkin Acne work?

First, a brief description of what acne is:
Acne occurs most frequently at puberty, when the sebaceous glands and keratinocytes increase the rate of production of sebum and keratin, respectively. The excess keratin cells can then quickly block the pores of the sebaceous gland, trapping the sebum below, which then solidifies. This creates an ideal breeding environment for bacteria which normally live harmlessly on the skin, especially the bacteria associated with acne, called Propionibacterium acnes (or P. acnes). This bacterium thrives in the anaerobic environment (that is, without oxygen) generated by the clogged pore, and by feeding off sebum.

The metabolic by-products of P. acnes (that is, the chemicals produced when P. acnes uses the energy from its feeding to drive its biological functions) inflame and destroy the wall of the hair follicles, allowing the inflammation to spread deeper into the tissues, causing infected spots which either erupt onto the skin or form painful cysts trapped below the surface.

ClearSkin Acne uses laser therapy to create heat in the skin without injuring the surface. It penetrates the skin deeply, causing thermal damage to the sebaceous glands of the skin, destroying P. acnes bacteria and reducing sebum production, whilst leaving the epidermis intact. The integrated vacuum simultaneously extracts the accumulated sebaceous material from the pores and has an integrated cooling system, so that the skin is protected and discomfort is minimal. The appearance of acne scars is also diminished over time by laser stimulation of collagen production.

How many treatments will I need?

Typically, four to six treatments are necessary, but again, this depends on the severity of the condition and the willingness to undertake the dietary and lifestyle changes necessary for the body to naturally manage a potential over-proliferation of the P. acnes bacteria. Ongoing treatments may be necessary to keep acne under control, especially when it is active in the teenage years.

Once acne subsides and “burns out”, ClearSkin scar revision may be advised.

Will the results be seen straight away?

In most cases, results are progressive and depend on the severity of the condition; it is very rare to see acne improve immediately. Additionally, lifestyle, dietary and skincare changes will be advised in detail, for you to implement concurrently with this treatment, so that the health and immunity of your skin is restored, bringing the population of P. acnes under control naturally and reducing dependence on external treatments.
